Diamond Painting special drills – Aurora Borealis

Aurora Borealis drills, or AB drills for short, are a fascinating addition to Diamond Paintings. These special drills, which derive their name from the impressive northern lights, the Aurora Borealis, have an additional fine coating on the top, which makes them shimmer in various iridescent colours. This gives the finished work of art an enchanting shimmer and a magical atmosphere.
The special thing about the Aurora Borealis coating is that the colours change between delicate pastel shades and intense, luminous nuances depending on the incidence of light and viewing angle.
The use of AB diamonds adds an extra dimension and depth to the images by catching the light and reflecting it in a spectrum of dazzling colours. Whether still lifes, portraits or cute creatures, the shimmering effects of the drills add a special magic to the overall picture.
The desired highlight effect is achieved through the deliberate selection of suitable AB colours and the well thought-out and hand-placed placement of the individual drills in our Diamond Painting pictures. The fact that the normal DMC colours are not fully replaced in Carat Art paintings, but the ABs are deliberately used according to the motto “less is more”, creates a unique overall work of art with sparkling details that bring the works of art to life.

At Carat Art, Aurora Borealis diamonds are labelled with their DMC colour and the abbreviation “AB” on the legend and the corresponding stickers.

Diamond Painting special drills – Crystals

Thanks to their glass effect, rhinestones, also known as crystals, glitter and sparkle even more than normal Diamond Painting drills. Our Crystal drills are made of transparent coloured resin that looks like glass. The underside of these drills is coated with silver foil to give them the reflective and shiny effect of diamonds. This underside also ensures that the drills are not transparent and therefore the symbols on the canvas cannot shine through.
Their glass-like transparency makes them look like small cut gemstones or crystals, from which the name Crystals is derived.
In general, they refract light differently, as the silver layer shines through the transparent coloured resin layer of the drills and Crystals therefore have a different radiance than conventional Diamond Painting drills. Their brilliant sparkle is strikingly different and their glass-like transparency gives them a very special effect. Crystals can therefore be used to create unusual accents and are perfect for all materials that are to look glassy, watery or glittery.
We all like it when it sparkles and glitters, which is why this drill variant is a great addition to many Diamond Painting motifs.
However, as with ABs, it is important to set crystals deliberately and appropriately.

At Carat Art, crystal diamonds are labelled with the abbreviation “LZ” on the legend and the matching stickers and listed in combination with their DMC number.

Diamond Painting special drills – Metallics

Metallic drills, as the name suggests, have a metallic appearance due to their unique coating. They are not only available in classic metallic colours such as silver or gold, but also in many other fascinating shades.
The wide range of available colour variations opens up countless creative application possibilities. This means that metallic drills on Carat Art Collection pictures can be used not only to create shiny highlights in classic metallic shades, but also in other shiny metallic colour nuances that give every work of art an individual touch.
The shiny metallic surface of these drills catches the light in a special way, making them stand out in every picture and creating unique highlights. Metallic drills are also set individually and by hand at Carat Art, so that they are deliberately used where a metallic shimmer makes sense and is effective.

At Carat Art, these metallic colours are marked with the abbreviation “JS” on the legend and the corresponding stickers, and as the coating of almost all colours is completely different to their actual base colour, they are not given a DMC number but are numbered consecutively.

Diamond Painting special drills – Glow in the Dark

Some Carat Art motifs are also available with glow-in-the-dark drills. These are also known as “Glow in the Dark” drills. These noctilucent Diamond Painting drills have a phosphorescent coating on their drills surface that makes them glow in the dark.
Diamonds with a “glow in the dark” effect can be used to emphasise parts of a motif, which can then be seen in the dark. In normal light, these drills are usually quite inconspicuous and are available in many different colours. The glow drills in Carat Art Diamond Painting Sets have, in addition to their special glow in the dark, a matt-opaque surface during the day, so that they appear slightly translucent or semi-transparent in colour. In addition, the light colours glow in strong neon colours so that they also have an extraordinary effect in the light.
In order for noctilucent drills to glow in the dark, they must first be “charged” with light. To do this, it is sufficient to expose them to bright daylight or illuminate them with a lamp for a while.
Phosphorescent diamonds can be used both selectively and on larger surfaces. Both variants create particularly beautiful effects when the motif is viewed in the dark.

At Carat Art, “Glow in the Dark” drills are marked with the abbreviation “YG” on the legend and the matching stickers and, like the metallic drills, are also numbered consecutively as they do not correspond to a specific DMC colour.

Diamond Painting special drills – Sparkle Dust

Like all our diamond drills, Sparkle Dust diamonds are made of synthetic resin. They are coated with a shimmering coating that catches and gently reflects the light. The fine, glittering coating of these special diamonds looks like sparkling glitter dust, which is also what their name refers to. The mesmerising shimmering effect that Sparkle Dust drills create adds a touch of magic and that little bit of extra sparkle to Carat Art images. In contrast to AB drills, they do not shine iridescently in different colours, but are somewhat more subtle and only in their own colour nuance.
Their enchanting sparkle is therefore rather restrained and yet extremely charming and captivating. With their mother-of-pearl-like glitter particle coating, they create glittering accents and stand out unobtrusively from normal Diamond Painting drills, making these special drills perfect for more extensive use.
Our Sparkle Dust colours are also selected specifically and appropriately to perfectly round off the overall result of each picture. They are a great addition to other, more striking special drills and also go well with motifs where, for example, ABs or metallic drills would be too much of a good thing.

Sparkle Dust diamonds are listed by Carat Art with their DMC number and the abbreviation “ND” on the legend and the corresponding stickers.
